シカゴ

グウェン・ステファニのにシカゴを4曲付けてプレイリストってる。
シカゴ、先日のサロン・ド・ショコラの記述で10枚目のジャケットを引用したので
ちょっと聞きたくなったのだ。それでベストを借りた。2枚組の。
で、中からとりあえず4曲「いったい現実を把握している者はいるだろうか?」「Saturday in the Park」
「If you leave me now」「Another rainy day in New York」をiPodへ。
「いったい〜」はなんつってもタイトルのインパクトが従来より気になっていたので、この際。
けど、これ聞いたことあるわ。こうしてみると。
それに原題は「Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?」であって、
そんなしゃちこばったものではない。あたりまえだ。
でもこの邦題、やっぱいいよね。それにタイトルもそうだけど、曲調も実際には割りに
明るい軽い感じで、重々しいわけでもない。で、他に「サタデー〜」は代表曲で割りに
耳にしたことがあるので、とりあえず入れた。あと「If you leave me now」はシカゴというと、
おれの頭の中にまず浮かぶのはこの曲の冒頭、タイトルのそれで、前々からちゃんと聞きたいと
思いつつなんとなし延び延びになっていてようやく入手。ほっとした。すっきり。
いい曲だ。当然。リアルタイムで知ってる曲なので、なんとも甘酸っぱい
（最近こればっかり）。昔だったならこういった軟弱な曲はちょっと受け付けないというか
頭で否定してたんだけど、いいかげんもう大人だ。素直になれる。
で、最後の「レイニー・デイ」はなんかとりあえず入れてみた。これは知らない曲だった。
できれば今回手にいれたベストだけでももっとちゃんと聞こうと計画中。
シカゴ、以前には「ビートクラブ」での1stアルバム時代の彼らの演奏を観たことがあったのが
割りとまともに聞いた唯一の機会。あれはインスト中心で結構カッコよかったんだ。そん時。
シカゴなんてヒット曲のグループぐらいの認識でよく知らなかったので、なんかとりあえず感心した。
でもそれきりのつきあい。で、今回こうして聞いてみると、
明るい曲調といい、ジャズの色合い、アメリカ音楽各種混交、ブルーアイド・ソウル、そして社会的メッセージといい、
「Freedom Suite」時代のヤング・ラスカルズに近い感じだ。



（「Feedom Suite」廃盤ぽい。少なくともアマゾンではめっからなかった。
許せん。ふざけた話だ。ヤング・ラスカルズだぞ。「Freedom Suite」だぞ。常に切らすな。
ちなみにおれは山下達郎監修のラスカルズBOXというやつで持っている。）

（これさあ、昔、20年から前、もなくてさー、ようやく中古で見つけて
ちょいとお高いお値段で買ったんだよなあ。おれ。LP時代。
そう、これとこれより一個前の彼らのアルバム「Once Upon A Dream」もだいぶん傷んだ中古で買ったなあ。）
